Getting Started With Driving

Provisional Licence

Before you can start taking lessons you need a provisional licence, you can apply for this at any time, if you are above the age of seventeen or 3 months before your 17th birthday.

You are able to do this online or by getting an application form from the Post Office.

The cost of the Provisional licence is £34.00, if applying for the licence online or £43.00 by post.

Please make sure that you use the www.gov.uk/apply-first-provisional-driving-licence website.

Eye Sight

Before you start driving ensure you can read a number plate in good day light at a distance of 20.5 meters.

If you wear glasses or contact lenses just make sure you always wear them while driving.

The Practical Driving Test

The second test is the Practical Driving Test. This can be booked at a cost of £62.00 weekdays or weekends £75.00, at www.gov.uk/book-practical-driving-test.

Your instructor will tell you when you are ready to take this test.

The Theory Test

You can start driving lessons before you pass the theory test. My pupils will be given free unlimited access access to the Theory Test Pro website.

The Theory Test require home study and eventually you will need to visit a test centre to take the test.

You can book a Theory test, at a cost of £23.00 (weekdays and weekend) at: www.gov.uk/book-a-driving-theory-test

There are sites online that will do this for you at a charge, but why pay someone else to do it for you when it’s simple to do it yourself and you do not know who you are giving your details to. So play it safe and only use the government site.

The nearest theory test centres to Loughborough are either….

Nottingham
Archer House, Castle Gate, Nottingham, NG1 7AW.

You are able to take the test at any of the above centres.
